Dr. John Oakes

Dr. John Oakes retired from a 35-year career as a chemistry and physics professor in 2019. He has written 15 Christian books, including a four-volume series on the History of Christianity, The Christian Story: Finding the Church in Church History. He has taught in eighty countries for 190 churches. He is the president of the Apologetics Research Society and is currently leading the Bakersfield Church of Christ with his wife Jan.

ABOUT THE CLASS:
History of Biblical Hermeneutics

This class will cover early Christian hermeneutics: Antioch vs Alexandria, Medieval hermeneutics, Reformation hermeneutics, the hermeneutics of the Enlightenment and of conservative Christianity in the 19th century, liberal Protestant hermeneutics, as well as 20th Century hermeneutics, missional and postmodern hermeneutics.
